An impressive hill, which is overgrown with an old pine forest. In the forest, on the hill and nearby several secular pines are found. The Holy or the Swedish or the Church Hill is a castle mound. A castle of the German crusaders was built on it in 1285-1286 – Heiligenberg. During the construction of the castle the original shape of the hill was significantly affected. The consequences of the earthworks are still well seen.
Narrative
Test excavations on the hill approved the presence of the crusaders’ castle, but did not approve of the place as a cult site. Still it is believed that the crusader castle was built on the holy hill of the ancient Semigallians.
Several significant ancient places in the vicinity, beautiful nature park, with well-developed tourism infrastructure. The object is located within the property of the State Joint Stock Company “State Forest Administration”.
